LEESBURG, GA -- The Distinguished Young Women Program took place at Lee County High School Saturday evening.
The program, formerly called the Junior Miss Pageant, gives high school juniors the chance to compete for scholarships.
The two winners, Distinguished Woman of Lee County and the Distinguished Woman of Leesburg, both walk away with a $1,000 cash scholarship and a two year Darton scholarship. Each girl participating gets scholarship money.
The reigning Woman of Lee County, Jessica Graber, and reigning Woman of Leesburg, Perry Wright, say the program is a great way to help young girls make it to college.
“Even if you only get enough money for one book, it still helps you experience college,” says Wright. “And it gives you incentive to go to college,” says Graber.
Thirteen girls participated this year. Troy University offers a full four year scholarship to each girl that meets testing requirements.
