Albany home has giant cracks, holes
ALBANY, GA -- "This was supposed to be where I stayed for the rest of my life," said Tracy Singletary.
Singletary says her dream home has turned into a nightmare.
She bought the home at 3119 Savannah Lane in 2002.
Everything was fine until three years ago, when she began to notice small cracks around the home.
"I noticed there was a crack in my garage and a crack on the side of the house," said Singletary. "It’s just getting larger and larger."
Now, everywhere you look there’s jagged concrete, jutting bricks, and separated ceilings.
Singletary called her insurance company only to have her claim denied and her coverage canceled.
She says the city of Albany suggested she hire her own contractors to inspect the property but they weren’t much help.
"I’ve been told it was a sinkhole, that it could be a sinkhole," said Singletary. "I’ve been told that the foundation wasn’t packed properly. I’ve been told maybe the footers weren’t set for brick. They’ve all said the same thing - that they’ve never seen one this bad."
By just looking at the left side of the Singletary home, you’d never know there was a problem. But on the right side, it’s a very different story. You can see where the ground level is supposed to be and you can literally run your hand through this hole in the bottom of the house.
"It’s not a safe place for my daughter and myself," said Singletary. "Something could break, break loose, pipes or whatever, cause a fire, kill us."
"I just try to stay in my room basically, cause I am scared that it is gonna fall," said Alesia Singletary.
At this point, Singletary says her only option is to walk away and let the bank foreclose.
"I have a house that I bought for $179,000 and I’ve had people tell me it’s not even worth ten," she said.
