LEE COUNTY, GA -- New speed limits may be coming to Lee County soon. The County Planning Department is researching if particular roads such as Ledo Road and U.S. 19 need to have their speed limits altered.

The Planning Department says it is something they need to do every few years to ensure there are no speed traps.

“We’re looking at the travel roads in Lee County, the State Routes as well as the County Roads. It covers most of the travel roads; not so much the residential streets in Lee County,” says Director of Planning and Engineering Bob Alexander.

If speed limit changes are made then Public Safety will make new radar permits for those roads.

The speed limit ordinance was tabled until next month so the Planning Department can do more research.

The Planning Department is also looking into LiDAR Imagery to help developers quickly attain land contour information. Contour data will show how water flows specifically when it rains so business developers know where it floods most frequently in the area.

Alexander says this could save people money by possibly reducing rates on elevation certificates as well as lower engineering costs.

He says LiDAR Imagery will improve flooding and storm water management as well as help economic development in growing Lee County.

Also at Tuesday’s Lee County Board of Commissioners meeting, commissioners unanimously elected Ed Duffy to serve as Board Chairman again and Rick Muggridge to serve as Vice-Chairman.
