CORDELE, GA -- The Cordele Police Department is investigating the murder of an elderly woman.

Cordele police spokeswoman Sandy MacNeil tells FOX 31 News that 72-year-old Mamie Evelyn Wright was shot three times Wednesday morning inside her home at 106 North 13th Street.

MacNeil says Wright called 911 and was taken to Crisp Regional Hospital, where she died. MacNeil says Wright came home around 10:30 a.m. and apparently discovered a burglar inside.  Police say Wright’s killer is a black man, about 6-feet tall with a slender build.  He was last seen wearing a red shirt and jeans.

Call the Cordele Police Department if you have any information about this case.  The number is (229) 273-3102.

The G-B-I is now handling the investigation and is searching for the killer.
