Local legislators see possible agriculture cuts

ALBANY, GA -- The 112th U.S. Congress began its own legislative session today.

The first order of business for the House of Representatives was electing its new speaker, Republican Representative John Boehner.

The Senate began its first day swearing in new members.

Both Republicans and Democrats are looking at budget cuts that could affect Southwest Georgia.

"When Washington looks to cut spending in any way," said Republican State Rep. Ed Rynders. "All of Georgia could be impacted by potential agriculture cuts. It will be interesting and something we should keep an eye on."

Local Congressman Sanford Bishop voted ‘present’ in Nancy Pelosi’s unsuccessful bid for another term as House Speaker.
