Some local high school basketball teams will be playing hoops on a big stage this weekend
ALBANY, GA -- Some local high school basketball teams will be playing hoops on a big stage this weekend.
The Civic Center will host four games Friday, including the cross town rivalry game between Monroe and Dougherty High.
Last’s game saw problems with crowd control. Many people had to be turned away at the door.
Officials are hoping for a sale out crowd to boost Albany’s profile as a basketball town.
“We are hoping and praying to see our civic center filled to capacity. It would be something special for the city. We'll get a chance to showcase our civic center which is a great basketball arena. In fact I’d go as far as to say it's the best basketball arena in Southwest Georgia, bar none,” said Dougherty County School System Assistant Superintendent Kenneth Goseer.
Dougherty County School System officials say a generous deal from the city helped bring the games to the Civic Center.
