As of 12/17/2010, 870 flu cases have been reported in the 14 counties within the Southwest Georgia Public Health District
ALBANY, GA -- The Southwest Georgia Public Health District in Albany confirms the first flu-related death of the current flu season.
Carolyn Maschke, Public Information Officer for the Southwest Georgia Public Health District, told FOX 31 News today that a 37-year-old Lee County woman died on December 6 after contracting the flu. Maschke said the woman's identity has not been released and that the woman did not have any underlying illnesses that contributed to her death. Maschke also said there were no records to indicate that the woman had been vaccinated against the flu prior to becoming ill.
Maschke said as of 12/17/2010, 870 flu cases have been reported in the 14 counties within the Southwest georgia Public Health District, and that 275 cases have been reported in Dougherty County this flu season.
Maschke urges everyone to get a flu shot as soon as possible.
