Georgia State Legislators were busy in Albany for their annual roundtable discussion with local officials
ALBANY, GA -- Georgia State Legislators were busy in Albany for their annual roundtable discussion with local officials.
State and local officials met bright and early to discuss possible issues for the upcoming state legislative session. Dougherty County commissioners were up first with the Georgia, Florida, Alabama water use dispute at the top of their list. Legislators say it is key to make sure local farmers and agricultures have access to the water.
County Commission Chairman Jeff Sinyard discussed with legislators how small changes can make drastic changes on the water supply in Southwest Georgia. “Really making sure that the inner basin transfer rules are applied in a way that won’t take water from South Georgia in such a way that it will affect agriculture and manufacturers,” says Sinyard.
And while a large part of the meeting was spent discussing the water wars, another key topic was tax reform. Other groups like the Dougherty County School System, City Commission, and Albany Area Chamber of Commerce also met with legislators.
