Not all pet owners are making sure their animals are safe in the cold

ALBANY, GA -- The cold weather may be tough on some, but for Sissy, it’s refreshing. The 7-year-old beagle spends most of her time inside, but still gets bathroom breaks and recess in the backyard. Owner Courtney Jones says she barely changes Sissy’s routine for the cold.
But not all pet owners are making sure their animals are safe in the cold. Officials say it’s best if you can keep your animals inside when it’s cold, but if your pet has to be outside it’s important for them to have a warm place to stay.
Sherman Capers is with Animal Control. He says even if your pets have a warm place outside, it’s still important to monitor them. “They might check on them once a day but go out two or three times a day because the temperatures keep dropping and they can get frostbite,” says Capers.
Jones says she makes sure Sissy is warm in the winter, however it’s the Georgia heat that worries her. Capers says the best way to keep your pet warm outside is with a shelter and blanket.
