Butterfly Kisses won a $50,000 grant to help fund their special needs playground
LEESBURG, GA -- Butterfly Kisses won a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Challenge. Money will go toward a playground for these kids as a part of the organization, Butterfly Kisses. Leesburg Church of God donated approximately one acre of land, free of charge. Other businesses are planning to donate some playground equipment.
Butterfly Kisses Founder Traci Henry says winning the money still feels like a dream.
“It feels good! This is my playground! There’s no equipment yet but we’ve got the land clear and ready to go,” says Henry.
Henry says the idea for the playground came from taking her son who has Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy to a playground Leesburg and him not being able to safely use the equipment there. She says equipment at the new playground will be safe for children with any type of disability or handicap; there will also be equipment family members can use while they play alongside.
Henry says it’s her goal to someday put a swing for special needs children in every park and playground in the city.
Butterfly Kisses meets once a month to provide proper and safe play time for children with Special Needs.
