ALBANY GA -- Lee County commissioners held a special called meeting Wednesday to discuss the Special Local Option Sales Tax 2013.

Commissioners have projected the SPLOST to be over 21 million dollars, which is very modest considering the last SPLOST was over 34 million. This is partly due to the economy. Commission Chair Ed Duffy says now it's more important than ever to vote yes.

“SPLOST has paid for every sheriff's vehicle in the county, every ambulance, every piece of fire equipment, it's built every EMS fire station in Lee County, it built a two million dollar jail,” Said Duffy.

If it's not passed, the money for all the projects will have to come out of the general fund, and Duffy says that's not possible. Residents will get to vote March 15th.

If passed, funds will go toward projects like the library, fire equipment, wastewater treatment plant and ambulances.
