Strive 2 Thrive has started their second series of workshops to empower impoverished Albany families
ALBANY, GA. -- Strive 2 Thrive is Albany's family empowerment nonprofit that teaches people how to get out of poverty by connecting the families to allies.
The connections are made so the allies can help the impoverished family learn how to navigate with a “middle class” mind set. The families take workshops and seminars teaching them about everything from how to establish a checking account to how to manage time to how to create intentional relationships to help them get further in life.
Dr. John Culbreath is one of Albany’s Strive 2 Thrive organizers and says the second group is coming along just fine. “This organization is all about trying to help people help themselves. We're teaching them to be self sufficient and to improve their situation in life. It’s more of a hand up than a hand out” says Culbreath.
The second class of participants currently has 14 families involved.
