LEESBURG, GA -- Southwest Georgians joined the rest of the nation today to honor America’s military veterans.

Dozens of people were at that ceremony at the Leesburg City Park.

Every year they gather, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

Patrick Walsh served in Vietnam.

“It just makes you feel so good. And it's not necessarily personally, but to know that the veterans they seem to be appreciated because they give so much,” said Walsh.

Walsh says he was especially touched by the turn out today. He says for many years people weren't as accepting of Vietnam War veterans because of the stigma attached to the war.
