430 students at Sylvester Road Elementary took a break from their classes to learn about the importance of exercise

ALBANY, GA -- Some Dougherty County students learned about the importance of healthy living Wednesday.

430 students at Sylvester Road Elementary took a break from their classes to learn about the importance of exercise. It was all part of Walk to school day. Students walked different routes around the school, then finished with a healthy snack.

Sylvester Road Assistant Principal Steven Dudley says Walk to School day is all part of a nationwide movement. “It’s a federal initiative that promotes getting up, getting active; more students walking to school rather than parents dropping them off, especially when they live here in the neighborhood,” says Dudley.

Officials say this is one more way students are encouraged to get out of the house and be more active.
