Voters in Dougherty County voted to continue the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax

ALBANY, GA -- Voters in Dougherty County voted to continue the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. 68.9 percent of voters said Yes to SPLOST IV, with 31.1 percent voting No.

The vote means shoppers in Dougherty County will continue to pay a 1-percent sales tax to fund infrastructure and public safety improvements. The improvements total $62,720,000 over the next six years.

One of the biggest benefactors is the Albany Fire Department.

“We’re looking at about six and a half million dollars of the SPLOST money coming this way. But also understand that a good portion of that is going to benefit a lot of public safety departments, especially in the 911 center where we dispatch for police, Dougherty county police, EMS and fire as well,” said Assistant Fire Chief Ron Rowe.

Fire officials say the improvement will go toward equipment upgrades in the 911 center and for purchasing two new fire trucks.
