Political candidates stopped at Darton College today for a friendly debate
ALBANY, GA. -- Local, regional, and state wide political candidates held a debate in front of dozens of Darton students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Congressman Sanford Bishop says he’s been working 6 days a week and he wants to tell as many people as possible about the election next week. “Our future depends on it and it’s important that people know what’s at stake and that they understand who’s applying for the job, what they bring to the table, and hopefully that will enable them to make good decisions” says Bishop.
Karen Kemp is running to represent district 150 in the State House and spoke about how she’ll work closely with law enforcement and make a commitment to zero tolerance for offenders. Incumbent Representative Winfred Dukes spoke about education, transportation, and water resources.
Carol Porter is running for Lieutenant Governor and says she’s worked on policy and research for years. As mother, tax payer, business owner, and general manager she says she’s now in the best position to run for office. “The small business owners just can’t handle it anymore. The tax payers are tapped out and when you see the cuts in education are a choice while we let 25% of the businesses that don’t turn in their sales tax continue to cheat the system it’s time for someone to step up to the plate and say no more” says Porter.
All of the candidates are courting as many votes as they can until next Tuesday when Georgians will vote in the midterm elections.
Southwest Georgia voters can vote at 125 or 222 Pine Avenue through Friday for early voting.
