Hundreds of people showed up and so did dozens of employers
ALBANY, GA -- Some people out of work hoped today was the day they would get a job, thanks to a big job fair at the Civic Center.
Hundreds of people showed up and so did dozens of employers. Some were hiring people on the spot.
It’s a welcome help to the unemployed, some of which have been without work for more than a year.
“Thousands of Georgians are still desperately searching to find work. So we held this job fair to try to connect employers with job seekers,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond.
“It’s frustrating and hard. It's hard to pay my bills and keep up with everything I need to do and take care of my kid. It's hard right now,” said jobseeker Demond Hudson.
With a little bit of irony, the actual Civic Center is still without a manager.
Assistant City Manager Wes Smith says they will be taking applications for the position until the end of the month.
