COLUMBUS, GA -- Columbus police arrest a man for allegedly grabbing his child’s puppy by the hind legs and slamming it against the pavement, killing the pet.
Investigators say 22-year-old Devon Bell killed the puppy during an argument with his child’s mother.
Bell is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, terroristic threats, obstructing police, and disorderly conduct.
Police say they responded to a call on Winifred Lane about 6 p.m. Sunday, where Jimea Williams told them she had been arguing with Bell. Williams told officers that during the argument, Bell grabbed the puppy and bashed it against the pavement three times. Police say the puppy suffered severe injuries to his neck, spine, and ribs.
Bell reportedly ran from police, but they caught him about an hour later at Blueridge Drive and Blueridge Court.
Several witnesses told police that Bell stood in the street cursing and using profanities as he killed the dog, and that he threatened to kill all other animals in the yard.
