Agape's fifth annual Community Day attracts people with food and fun

ALBANY, GA -- The community kicked off their shoes and relaxed with good food and music at their fifth annual Community Day on Saturday at Robert Cross Park.

The kids had fun and some even felt there was a deeper value to the event.

“It’s fun! We learn more about God because we’re having a church event and it’s very nice because we’re not in the streets,” says 15-year-old Jayme Beal who attended Community Day.

What started out as a small idea for Agape Christian Worship Center grew as it sparked interest throughout the community.

“More community was interested in getting together and just kind of cooking, fellowshipping, inviting like the Gang Task ForceFire Department and begin to educate our congregation,” says Agape Senior Pastor Michael Odom.

Odom says his three goals for the event are to create partnerships with organizations and friendships, relax, and use the event as a platform to educate people. Even his wife and Agape Pastor Isha Odom even learned a thing or two.

“I just learned today about the child development and head start programs so hopefully many will come and mingle around and see some of the booths and learn some new tools,” says Isha.

The pastors say they hope because of this event, the Albany and Dougherty County communities come together.

“I hope they walk away with a sense of unity and a sense of togetherness; not just a faith-based but a community thing because we all live together,” says Isha.
