Phoebe Putney hosted a breast cancer survivor celebration Thursday
ALBANY, GA -- Phoebe Putney hosted a breast cancer survivor celebration Thursday and it was all to honor and encourage women living with the disease.
Laurie Cleveland starts a yearlong reconstructive surgery process Tuesday. It’s one of the final stages in her breast cancer recovery. Cleveland was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in 2009. She says she caught the cancer because of yearly check-ups.
And Cleveland wasn’t the only one spreading the message of early detection. A group of breast cancer survivors got together at Phoebe Putney to celebrate their survival and awareness.
Nurse Regina Martell says it’s a great way for the survivors to support each other, “15, 20 year, 25 year survivors, it’s just inspiration and they just help and mentor each other,” says Martell.
Martell says they have a survivors' meeting every month.
