AFD will educate more than 4,000 kids on fire safety this Wednesday

ALBANY GA -- On Wednesday firefighters will educate more than 4,000 children from all over Southwest Georgia on Fire safety.

Firefighters will perform skits and songs all meant to teach children the basics about smoke alarms, stop drop and roll, and having an evacuation plan.

Fire Chief James Carswell says making the event fun is the key to the children learning.  “If you want a child to remember a message then you present it to them in a fun way and they’ll sing the songs.  It gives us the opportunity to get that message to a large group of kids and hopefully they’ll take that message home to discuss with their parents” says Carswell.

The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Albany Civic Center.
