ALBANY, GA -- Congressman Sanford Bishop received two items a sponsor says he’ll need for his campaign: an endorsement and boxing gloves.

Max Richtman with the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare gave Bishop those gifts while the congressman was speaking with seniors. Bishop says he is against privatizing social security because it would coexist with an unsteady stock market.

He also says he is working on a bill for Cost of Living Adjustments, which many seniors say they did not receive this year.

“We want legislation that will, in the future, take into account those factors that affect seniors so that consumer prices indexes will not disqualify them when they so desperately need to have the increase,” says Bishop.

The Consumer Price Index is a tool used to measure changes in the prices of consumer goods and services that are bought. The Consumer Price Index is used in calculating the Social Security COLA.
