After attempting suicide before his original execution date, Brandon Rhode is being put to death Monday
Brandon Rhode is scheduled to be executed on Tuesday after attempting suicide before his original date last week
ALBANY, GA -- After he attempted suicide, state authorities tried for a third time to put to death convicted killer Brandon Rhode on Monday at 7 p.m. According to news media in Macon, the execution didn't begin until 9:14 p.m. The Associated Press says the U.S. Supreme Court denied a stay of execution for Rhode around 8 p.m.
Hours before his original execution date last Tuesday, Rhode tried to kill himself and was taken to the hospital. The execution was rescheduled to Friday, but the Georgia Supreme Court postponed it until Monday, Sept. 27.
His lawyer says a prison guard gave Rhode the razors. Razors are one of the prohibited items for an inmate hours before execution.
The 31-year-old was given the death penalty after he killed a father and two children during a burglary of their Georgia home in 2000.
