Residents in Plains are gearing up for the town’s biggest weekend of the year

PLAINS, GA -- Residents in Plains are gearing up for the town’s biggest weekend of the year.

This year’s Plains Peanut Festival kicks off with a play Friday. It continues Saturday with entertainment, a race, and a parade among other things.

Organizer Ruth Sanders says they are expecting 3,000 to 5,000 people at this year’s event. “The economy has affected that over the last couple of years so it hasn’t been quite as big, but we’re hoping this year it’s going to bounce back,” says Sanders.

The weekend ends with a Sunday School lesson from Jimmy Carter.
