Congressman stressing independence
ALBANY, GA -- As Republicans unveil their ‘Pledge to America,’ they may have found an unlikely local ally on at least one major issue.
Democratic incumbent Rep. Sanford Bishop joined 30 other so-called ‘Blue Democrats’ and voiced support for the 2001 Bush tax cuts.
Officials with Bishop’s office say the move demonstrates his independence.
"Congressman Bishop has broken with the Democratic leadership on some very key issues," said Travis Worl, Bishop's campaign manager. "Most recently, on the Bush tax cuts that are coming up for reauthorization. Congressman Bishop supports extending them for all tax brackets."
Bishop’s challenger in the November election is State Representative Mike Keown.
