Some Dougherty County School System officials took a field trip to Jacksonville Tuesday
ALBANY, GA -- Some Dougherty County School System officials took a field trip to Jacksonville Tuesday.
Superintendent Doctor Joshua Murfree and others left for Florida early Tuesday morning to see how a larger school system increases graduation rates.
School Spokesman R.D. Harter released this statement to FOX 31 News: “The ultimate goal of the Dougherty County School system is to improve academic achievement on every level through successful graduation. This [Duval] school district employs uncommon methods for student success that they are willing to share with educators.”
Southwest Georgia Regional Achievement Center Principal Dr. John Davis went on the trip and says the program in Duval County, FL is a resource for dropouts looking for something different. "They need to finish high school, they want to finish high school but they want to be in a setting that’s flexible and nontraditional where they can go to work in the morning time and finish high school at their own pace," says Davis.
Officials are going to discuss next week what they want to implement into DCSS.
