Dozens compete at the Black Belts for Christ competition

ALBANY GEORGIA -- Dozens of martial artists kicked and karate chopped their way to trophies at the Black Belts for Christ competition.

Brunson Martial Arts in Albany hosted the Black Belts for Christ competition Saturday.

More than 50 children, teens, and adults from all around the Southeast displayed their skills in forms, weapons, sparring, and grappling.

The director of Black Belts for Christ Joe Morejon says he purposely wanted to combine karate with Christianity.  “What makes this different is it lacks the ego and the attitude that you would find at other secular tournaments.  Here we have a spirit of fellowship and friendship that brings us all together.  We’re competitors in skill, but we’re united in Christ.

Some of the competitors will compete in the Grand Championships in Orlando, Florida in October.
