Commissioners ask Public Works for help cleaning up illegal dump sites
ALBANY, GA -- City Commissioners asked public works what can be done about the trash – especially in East Albany.
Public Works says it will take a significant amount of manpower and resources to clean up the mess.
Commissioners agreed something needs to be done about the trash and they recognize that asking Public Works to take on the massive cleanup will cost the taxpayers.
Ward One Commissioner Jon Howard took FOX 31 News to check out one of the main illegal dump sites that had everything from tires to toilets to old furniture. Howard says he’s disappointed by people not taking pride in their own neighborhoods. “It’s going to cost the tax payers to clean up this mess because Public Works will have to take time off from their already packed schedule to clean this. They shouldn’t have to clean this up because individuals should be more respectful of their community” says Howard.
Commissioners say they could avoid this situation of people and contractors would dump items at the Dougherty County Landfill.
