No down time for Tift County cops over the weekend, violent crimes take center stage
TIFTON, GA -- Tift County law enforcement officials worked a convenience store robbery, home invasion, and stabbing over the weekend.
A clerk at the Holiday Market in Ty Ty told investigators that a black man entered the store with a gun just before midnight Saturday and took cash from the register.
In an unrelated robbery, a woman who lives on William H. Circle in Tifton reported that a black man pulled a gun and forced her to enter her home around 3:30 Saturday morning. The woman claims the man took her money and then ran away.
In an unrelated case handled by the Tifton Police Department, a 47-year-old Tifton man reported that his girlfriend stabbed him in the stomach with a steak knife Saturday night.
Police say the man and his girlfriend were arguing in the 1100 block of South College Circle about him being with another woman. The woman reportedly pulled out a steak knife and stabbed the man. When police arrived, the man was standing in the yard bleeding from his stomach. Officers put a gauze bandage on the man’s wound and applied pressure until EMS arrived.
Police say they couldn’t locate the woman but they did find a steak knife hidden in a sofa in the living room of the residence.
