David Maschke speaks with Kiwanis Club on Dougherty County CRCT test investigation

ALBANY, GA. -- Dougherty County School Board Chairman David Maschke was the guest speaker at Monday’s Kiwanis Club meeting. The headline topic: the state government investigation into Dougherty County CRCT tests.

“I’m frustrated because we would like to get on it and stay on it until it’s resolved and get to the bottom of it however it pans out,” says Maschke.

Maschke addressed the lack of access to test materials county investigators have had and the looming state investigator visit.

“When you’re sitting down as David said, 63 percent of the erasures that they’re talking about were first and second graders come on give us a life first and second grade kids, they’re going to erase a lot,” says Kiwanis Club member Mike Bertram.

After investigating Atlanta schools first, if the state authorities find proof of cheating on Dougherty County tests, proper actions will be taken.

“If there’s proof of cheating, the school board and school administration is committed to removing those people from the school classroom and the school system,” says Maschke.

“For teachers who have if they have indeed done wrong those teachers should be dismissed from our system because the system has to have honesty and integrity,” says Kiwanis Club member Larry Price.

The Kiwanis Club brought in David Maschke to provide answers to the Dougherty County Schools, but the CRCT investigation is one topic that’s still up in the air.

“The CRCT test I think are still under a cloud of mystery as far as what’s going on and I don’t know that any one person has all the answers to that,” says Price.

From Kiwanis Club members to community members, Maschke wants as much information as possible to be available, even though some answers may still not be crystal clear.
