ATLANTA (AP) -- The family of a man who collapsed on an Atlanta street and died at a hospital says his body went unidentified for more than a week although he was carrying ID.
Police say 53-year-old Robert Person was walking home on July 26 when he collapsed and was taken to Emory Hospital in midtown Atlanta, where he died. His body was taken to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office.
Officials at the medical examiner's office say they thought Person was unidentified and attempted to find out who he was although identifying documents had been sent with him.
The family says the medical examiner's office told them three times that Person wasn't there before a missing person's report led to his identification.
A spokesman says the medical examiner's office sympathizes with the family.
