Two people are arrested in Colquitt County for allegedly operating a rolling methamphetamine lab.
26-year-old Ashley Williams of Thomasville and 29-year-old Dustin McMillan of Camilla are charged with manufacturing methamphetamine.
Colquitt County Drug Enforcement Team Commander Sgt. Steve Exum said a Colquitt County sheriff’s deputy responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle at Hurst Road and Thigpen Trail in Hartsfield about 6:30 p.m. Monday. The deputy did not find anything at the time, but drug agents patrolled the area because of recent complaints of methamphetamine activity in the area.
The agents followed up on the suspicious vehicle call later Monday night, and Exum said they came upon a Chevrolet truck out in a field. When agents approached the truck, the two people with the truck, identified as Williams and McMillan, stated they were fishing in a pond in the cotton field.
Drug agents say they became suspicious when they smelled a chemical odor associated with methamphetamine. The truck was searched, and chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamine were allegedly found inside the truck cab as well as at least one bottle of the drug cooking. Williams and McMillan were then arrested.
Exum said the Drug and Enforcement Agency was notified of the suspected lab, and Summit Environmental from Tallahassee, Florida, responded to clean up the truck. Federal agents estimated the suspected lab could produce about 12 grams of methamphetamine at a time.
“Only chemicals used to make methamphetamine were allegedly found in the truck,” Exum said. No finished methamphetamine was found, but the bottle of it cooking was allegedly found inside.
