ALBANY, GA. -- The Dougherty County Rotary Club received an update on the Strive2Thrive Initiative at a meeting on Tuesday at Doublegate Country Club.

Strive2Thrive volunteer Cynthia George was the meeting’s guest speaker.  Strive2Thrive is an Albany-Area Chamber of Commerce initiative to help move people out of poverty. The program provides stipends as well as volunteers that offer one-on-one counseling. George says Strive2Thrive is a “hand up” and not a “hand out.”

She also says community involvement is the backbone of the coalition.

“One of the things that I want to do today is motivate this group to help them realize how they too can get involved because everybody has something they can contribute and there’s a job for everybody,” George says.

Strive2Thrive currently has five families it’s helping and will be adding 15 more families in September.
