ALBANY, GA. -- A man is alive tonight because of Albany firefighters.

32-year-old Mike Thornton left food on a hot stove inside his apartment on Nottingham Way.

Thornton was overcome by fumes and lost consciousness.

Firefighters were able to drag him to safety and revive him.

They credit the quick response of neighbors and rescuers for saving Thornton’s life.

"Time made the difference," said Albany Assistant Fire Chief Allen Cravey. "A quick response, the officers’ quick decision to force entry into the structure and commit to rescue."

Firefighters urge people never to leave a hot stove unattended.
