ADICA approved new changes to downtown's facade grant program.
ALBANY, GA. -- ADICA approved new changes to downtown's facade grant program.
The grant program was conceived to help spur business in the downtown area.
ADICA sent funds to help businesses to spruce up the exterior of their buildings. But members say too many businesses were applying for facades and then leaving downtown.
“We kind of put some teeth into the program to allow them to give us at least a three year commitment before they move on. It's not a grant in the beginning. It's a deferred loan that becomes a grant if they met the provisions of the repayment agreement,” said ADICA board member Thelma Johnson.
In order for businesses to earn the grant money they have to use the facade improvement funds within 60 days and stay downtown for at least three years.
If they don't meet those requirements they will have to repay the money.
