ALBANY, GA -- A string of recent vehicle break-ins in Lee County has some residents wondering if they're next. Officials say the slow economy coupled with summer break, makes for an increase in break-ins. Many of the cars targeted are the ones left unlocked.

Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals says you should always remove any valuables from your vehicle. “Put them in the trunk or take them inside. I know it's an inconvenience, but the more we inconvenience those thieves the better off we're going to be and the less they're going to be able to steal” says Rachals.

Officials say the best way to avoid becoming a victim is by locking your doors.
