A federal judge says construction of a replacement for Martin Army Community Hospital at Fort Benning should be allowed to proceed
FORT BENNING, GA. (AP) -- A federal judge says construction of a replacement for Martin Army Community Hospital at Fort Benning should be allowed to proceed.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers revoked a $333 million contract earlier this year to replace the hospital after finding conflicts of interest involving the companies that had won the contract.
Turner Construction Co. of Hunstville, Ala., and its design partner, Ellerbe Becket of New York City, won the contract last September to build the 745,000-square-foot facility.
U.S. Court of Federal Claims Judge Bohdan A. Futey ruled last week that the Army should not have revoked the contract.
A spokesman for the Corps of Engineers says the case is in the hands of the U.S. Department of Justice, which has no comment.
