AUGUSTA, GA. (AP) -- Police in Augusta say a 35-year-old man angry over his estranged girlfriend's refusal to resume their relationship apparently led him to shoot her, then kill himself.

Richmond County sheriff's Lt. Calvin Chew said Alfonicia Gilbert of Augusta shot his ex-girlfriend on Tuesday as she sat in her car in the parking lot of the plant where she works, then turned the gun on himself.

Chew said the woman, identified as 28-year-old Tiffany Bush of Girard, was in serious condition at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

He says the couple had two children together.
