ALBANY, GA. -- A Leesburg boy just got a $1,000 scholarship toward his college education.

The money was award to 12-year-old Taylor Richter for his volunteer efforts by Kohl’s department stores.

Taylor works to boost the population of the endangered whopping crane.

“We’ve introduced whooping cranes to the east coast and we're flying them from Wisconsin to Florida,” said Richter. “We introduced one group at a time and then they have babies and they teach their babies and then those babies teach their babies.”

Taylor says he wants to go to school at the University of Georgia to study veterinary medicine.
