Changes to help school children cross the road will take effect this fall
ALBANY, GA. -- City Commissioners approved the reactivation of a school zone crosswalk at the Westgate and Partridge intersection in Northwest Albany.
Officials say it the flashing school light crosswalk was de-activated because of the lack of children walking to school, however now that there are children walking to local schools, its necessary to take steps to keep them safe.
Michele Strickland, Safe Communities Coordinator says they want to make sure all children are safe when traveling to school. “They will have a crossing guard on duty in the mornings and we reactivated the school zone so that it can be enforced by the local law enforcement” says Strickland.
The school zone speed limit and flashing light will be active this fall when school begins.
