A 10% sales tax on indoor tanning is in effect nationwide starting July 1

ALBANY, GA -- A 10% sales tax on indoor tanning is in effect nationwide starting July 1. It’s all part of the new Federal Health Care Bill.

While some businesses don’t fear the tax, others say they have already seen changes in customers. Tropical Sun Tanning Manager Angela Gillard says she knows how the bill will affect them. “I’ve had a lot of complaints, I’ve had a lot of drop offs and cancellations since we’ve known that the tax was coming. So it’s really going to hurt our business” says Gillard.

The bill is estimated to generate $2.7 billion over ten years.
