ALBANY, GA. -- The Dougherty County School System has a brand new budget, but it wasn't easy.

The board met today and passed the budget just before the July 1 deadline. The district had less money to work with, but they were able avoid teacher layoffs.

“We did not have any layoffs but all the staff is being affected by pay cuts across the entire system,” said School Board Chairman David Maschke.

Most district employees will also have to take ten furlough days throughout the year. The district had to save about $2 million dollars compared to last year's budget.
