Officers said a woman was forced to kill her own son in Sylvester
SYLVESTER, GA. -- A deadly shooting in Sylvester happened just feet away from the police department. Officers said a woman was forced to kill her own son.
“Officers arrived. Officers noticed that a person, a victim, that winded up being the aggressor had been shot,” said Sylvester Police Chief Alfred Anderson.
The shooting happened Tuesday night in the 800 block of Isabella Street. 28-year-old Christopher Bunn was allegedly holding his mother, girlfriend and his own son hostage at gun point throughout the day. Until his mother found time to break away.
“A time span came when she was able to get to a weapon and that is when the shooting took place,” said Anderson
Both the mother and the girlfriend were taken in for questioning but have been released. Officers said Bunn had a history of domestic abuse.
Several of the people that live on the street said that it is typically pretty quiet and so is the house where this incident took place. In fact several people said that they have never even seen the people who live there.
The shooting is a worst case scenario when it comes to domestic violence. Silke Deeley is the director of Liberty House, a domestic abuse shelter in Albany.
“I think it’s important for people number one to be aware of what is domestic violence, what does that look like, because it’s not about black eyes and blood. A lot of domestic violence that occurs isn't necessarily physical it's emotional and psychological and over a period of time there is the possibility of it becoming physical,” said Deeley.
“It's a tragic thing that a shooting did take place and a life was lost. It's compounded by the mother actually being the shooter so it's tragic for the family it's just a tragedy for the whole family,” said Anderson.
