Music, pizza, and drinks were on the schedule today for some Turner Job Corps Center students
Music, pizza, and drinks were on the schedule Wednesday for some Turner Job Corps Center students.
Turner Retention Specialist Andre Hampton says the school let their students take a break from classes Wednesday morning to kick off their summer with a celebration. “We just want to let them know how much we appreciate them, that we’re here for them, and then when they go back to their communities we want to make sure that they contact their career transition specialist,” says Hampton.
Roakethia Cook is about to graduate from Turner and says the school has taught her a lot about work, but taught her even more about life. “I learned so much more about myself, my peers, just about how people come in from different environments and towns and cities” says Cook.
About 330 students attended Wednesday’s celebration. While many of them will be coming back after summer break, others will be moving on and say they have big plans. Turner officials say hosting these parties a few times each year, makes it easier for the students to return to classes.
