School finance committee recommends 10 furloughs for all employees that work more than 180 days, teachers included
The Dougherty County School Board has tentatively approved a new budget that includes 10 furlough days.
The furloughs will save the district $4.2 million. The school system has whittled a $6.2 million budget shortfall to just over $630,000. There has to be three public hearings before the board can approve the budget. The 10 furloughs apply to all employees that work more than 180 days. Bus drivers, child nutritionists, and extended day workers will take three furloughs if the budget is approved.
“There's nothing off the table,” said school system Finance Director Robert Lloyd. “We've been looking at it now for a period of maybe six to eight weeks planning what we're gonna do. We still have some further work to do and we'll be doing that until June 23rd when we hopefully approve the budget.”
The board must approve the budget by June 30.
