Commissioners discuss a new ordinance with new zoning requirements

City commissioners met Tuesday evening and discussed zoning requirements and regulations for sexually oriented businesses.

The new ordinance would restrict the sexually oriented businesses to one of three major roads including Slappey Boulevard, Oglethorpe Boulevard, and Dawson Road.

Commissioners decided to table the issue to consider adding West Broad Street, the location of Gail’s Lingerie, to the list.

Commissioner Roger Marietta says the issue was tabled simply to take the time to make sure that Gail’s Lingerie meets the requirements needed by the ordinance.  “We want to be certain and the planning director can measure it and make sure it’s not in violation of the requirements” says Marietta.

Sexually oriented businesses cannot be within 1,000 feet of a school, park, church, or library.
