Lee County Commissioners instead gave the Sheriff's Office a $450,000 budget

Due to the economic conditions and Lee County revenue being down the Lee County Commissioners say they aren’t in a position to grant the Sheriff’s $1.5 million dollar budget increase.

The Lee County Commissioners told the Sheriff’s Office they will receive $450,000.

The money is for four deputies, three jailers, two court house security officers, two e-911 employees, and four new patrol cars.

Sheriff Rachals says he’s disappointed he didn’t get all of the help he asked for, but he understands because of the economic conditions.  He says he’s relieved to get the additional staff.  “My people are working so much overtime that I welcome the help” says Rachals.

Commissioner Ed Duffy says the Lee County budget is now balanced without tax increases and without furloughing employees.
