A statewide initiative to push seat belt use on rural roads as a part of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety “Click-it or Ticket” campaign kicked off today under the name “Buckle-Up Country.”

“Buckle-Up Country” kicks off its second year just a week prior to “Click-It Or Ticket”. The initiative stresses rural road safety belt usage. The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety says drivers on rural roadways face a greater risk of being killed or injured in traffic crashes than motorists in urban areas. In 2007, 527 people died in Georgia’s most rural counties, compared to 342 traffic deaths in the metro Atlanta area.
