Albany State University is assessing the damage to its main campus sign from weekend storms.

An early Sunday morning storm knocked down the LED sign on Radium Springs Road.  It cost just under $100,000 when the university bought it almost ten years ago. Albany State’s Vice President of Institutional Advancement Clifford Porter says they’re waiting to see if insurance will cover the damage.

“It’s just fortunate where it was and the time of night that is happened,” Porter said. “No one was in the area and none of our students were out.”

The university was planning on moving the sign to build the new student center, so it’s unclear where the new sign will go.
