LCHS principal advices students to speak up
Earlier this year, a Massachusetts teenager killed herself after she says she was repeatedly bullied at school, marking just one of the many victims of bullying in America. Many schools in Southwest Georgia are stepping up their efforts to make sure nothing like this ever happens here.
Lee County High School Principal Kevin Dowling still remembers when he used to be bullied, and says he never wants one of his students to go through what he went through. But he does understand that bullying occurs everywhere and that’s why he tells his students to speak up.
“Find somebody that you can report this to. If you hold it in, it’s just going to get worse,” said Dowling.
Dowling is determined to rid his school of bullies. A first time bully offender at Lee County High School will be suspended for one to three days. The second time, he or she will appear at a tribunal hearing where LCHS administrators will decide to send the student to an alternative school, expel them, or deliver a long term suspension.
“I can tell you right now, we will do something about it, we will investigate, we will look into it, and we will if there’s something wrong, we will do something about it,” said Dowling.
